5th Cancer Symposium in Moncton

Moncton – Friday, April 12, 2019 - The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre and Dalhousie University welcomed over 140 participants at Crowne Plaza Hotel Hotel for the Fifth Moncton Cancer Symposium to address important issues pertaining to breast and gynecological cancers. 

‘’We are pleased to welcome specialists and general practitioners, nurses, radiation therapists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who are directly involved in the care and treatment of breast and gynecological cancer patients,” explained Dr. Linda LeBlanc, radiation oncologist at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre and co-organizer of the symposium.

“This event serves as a meeting place and an opportunity for health professionals to update their knowledge of multidisciplinary approaches now being used in the fight against breast and gynecological malignancies” added Dr. LeBlanc.

A number of great guest speakers were present today. Participants heard the latest on breast and cervical cancer screening by Dr. Jocelyne Hébert and Dr. Réjean Savoie who are both surgeons at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. There was also a presentation on genetic testing by genetics counselor Nathalie Bolduc. There were updates on the treatment of ovarian cancer and the management of breast and gynecological cancer treatment related complications. Finally, Dr. Rina Lee, cardiologist at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, talked about the evolving domain of cardio-oncology and Dr David D’Souza, radiation oncologist at the London Regional Cancer Center, discussed the latest on radiotherapy of breast and cervical cancer.

“Oncology health care professionals also benefit from continued partnerships to ensure improvement in their specific field of expertise”, said Dr. LeBlanc.
