Upgrade of cancer detection technology at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC
Moncton, August 25, 2022 – Vitalité Health Network is pleased to announce the acquisition of new high-tech instruments for the hematology sector at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC). Among these instruments is the new flow cytometer, which will allow for early detection of cancer of the blood (leukemia) or lymph nodes (lymphomas). It will also allow for more accurate monitoring of the development of the disease during patient therapy.
“Thanks to its processing speed and its ability to detect multiple parameters per cell, the flow cytometer can reveal very rare cancer cells, with greater ease and accuracy,” explained Dr. Natalie Banville, Vice-President of Medical Affairs.
"The automated system responsible for preparing specimens and the high-performance computer tools acquired recently substantially improve the analysis process with the cytometer. They help improve efficiency through their speed and accuracy, from the fact that fewer human resources are needed to operate them and that they provide better quality interpretation,” continued Dr. Banville.
The hematology sector team in the Ocology Department at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC welcomed this new leading-edge technology with open arms, as it will help the oncologists of Vitalité Health Network manage all their patients better, regardless of where they are in New Brunswick.
"One of Vitalité Health Network’s priorities is to improve the performance of services provided to patients. From this perspective, the new device is a substantial addition to the quality and effectiveness of services provided to patients with cancer,” concluded Dr. Banville.
