Car 67 – a new community intervention team in Greater Moncton
A new team is patrolling the streets of Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview to help people in distress or in complex situations.
Through the Car 67 program, a social worker and an RCMP officer travel together in the same vehicle to respond to situations involving psychological distress, social crisis or mental health concerns.
The team delivers rapid, person-centred support, facilitates access to health and social services, and helps prevent unnecessary emergency room visits and crisis escalation.
This one-year pilot project, led jointly by Vitalité Health Network, Horizon Health Network and the Codiac RCMP, also aims to promote collaboration between mental health and police services, reduce stigma and develop a model that could be expanded to other communities.
