A provincial platform to improve medical image sharing
In 2024, the Network launched a structural transformation to modernize the sharing of medical images, which were then dispersed across several regional systems.
Rolling out a unified provincial image archiving and transmission platform represents a major turning point. First launched in the Acadie-Bathurst Zone, the platform was gradually implemented across the Network. The Northwest Zone marks the final phase of this transformation, ensuring complete coverage across all zones.
This solution replaces eight independent systems and now offers centralized access to medical images in an integrated digital environment. It aligns clinical tools, optimizes workflows and strengthens collaboration between radiologists and clinical teams. It also promotes service continuity by enabling mutual support between regions.
Beyond its operational benefits, this achievement is a strategic lever for meeting the objectives of the Provincial Health Care Plan, by helping to build a more connected, responsive and patient-centred system.
Access to diagnostic imaging examinations continues to improve across the Network. Early this year, 2,000 patients were removed from the MRI wait list—a 22% reduction—while the diagnostic ultrasound wait list decreased by 9%.
Median wait times for urgent examinations also decreased in 2025-2026:
- MRI: 14 to 13 days
- X-ray: 4 to 3 days
- CT scan: 11 to 7 days
- Ultrasound: 11 to 7 days
