Local rheumatology care for Pabineau First Nation
Members of the Pabineau (Oinpegitjoig) First Nation now have access to rheumatology care directly in their community. Vitalité Health Network's Dr. Jean-Philip Deslauriers is expanding the pilot project already implemented earlier this year in Ugpi'ganjig (Eel River Bar).
Once a month, the physician and a nursing team travel to Pabineau to offer consultations without appointments or medical referrals, allowing for a comprehensive assessment and rapid treatment on site. This approach aims to reduce barriers to accessing specialized care and to initiate treatment earlier to prevent disease progression.
Coming in 2026
The Network also plans to open other rheumatology clinics in the Restigouche and Acadie-Bathurst zones to continue improving access to specialized care.
