Chaleur Regional Hospital: Phased opening of new spaces
This fall, after several years of planning, construction, and preparation, the Chaleur Regional Hospital modernization project reached a major milestone with the phased opening of part of the west wing expansion.
A total of 22 departments will move into new, modern facilities, designed to meet current standards and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
The expansion will also significantly improve the care environment. Single or semi-private rooms, all equipped with private bathrooms, will replace four-bed rooms, offering patients greater privacy, comfort, and safety.
Services are being moved to the new facilities gradually to ensure a safe and smooth transition. September marked the opening of several new spaces, including phlebotomy (blood collection), admissions, reception, the Foundation, and accounts receivable.
The rollout continued in October with the relocation of outpatient medical services, followed by renal health services.
Throughout the fall and winter of 2026, other departments will gradually move into their new facilities, including oncology, speech-language pathology, clinical nutrition, the surgical unit, the medical unit, the palliative care unit, and the transitional care unit.
This gradual opening marks a new phase in the transformation of the Chaleur Regional Hospital and will provide patients and staff with environments better suited to the health care needs of today and tomorrow.
A new 10-bed unit opens at the Enfant-Jésus RHSJ† Hospital in Caraquet

On October 5, a new 10-bed care unit welcomed its first patient at the Enfant-Jésus RHSJ† Hospital in Caraquet, increasing the facility’s inpatient capacity from 12 to 22 beds.
This new multifunctional unit cares for patients who require medical or palliative care. The increased local capacity will help shorten admission wait times from the Emergency Department and reduce transfers to other facilities.
Designed to meet current standards, the unit features private rooms that enhance patient privacy and provide a more suitable environment for the delivery of safe, high-quality care.
