Most of these psychiatrists and family physicians, who received their training in New Brunswick in collaboration with the Université de Sherbrooke, will settle in New Brunswick, notably in Moncton, Dieppe, Shediac and Sainte-Anne-de-Kent.

The graduates completed their clinical training in New Brunswick, at the Greater Moncton Family Medicine Unit and at the psychiatry clinic of the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre, in collaboration with Vitalité Health Network’s health care facilities. The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, Chaleur Regional Hospital, Campbellton Regional Hospital, Edmundston Regional Hospital, Enfant-Jésus RHSJ† Hospital, Tracadie Hospital, Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre and their affiliated centres as well as the Saint-Jacques Medical Clinic and Nepisiguit Medical Clinic hosted the residents during their training.

“The ultimate goal of this medical training in New Brunswick is to promote understanding of the community’s needs and to increase physician recruitment and retention.  We are confident that the graduates of 2023 will help us achieve this goal and that they will be able to understand the needs of the communities and, above all, respond well to them,” said Dr. Julie Moffitt and Dr. Shane Aubé, co-directors of the Programme de formation en médecine de famille francophone du Nouveau-Brunswick.

These New Brunswick training programs in family medicine and psychiatry are the main source of training for francophone physicians in Atlantic Canada.

“Graduating with a postdoctoral degree is a highlight for the graduates of both cohorts. Their unwavering determination and commitment are admirable. New Brunswick is in great need of their expertise,” indicated Dr. Natalie Banville, Senior Vice-President of Client Programs, Intrahospital Services and Medical Affairs. “I would also like to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of Dr. Léa Sara Chianetta, Assistant Director of the Programme de formation spécialisée en psychiatrie, to the development of such training in our province.”
