Local family health teams: a model recognized by eminent figures, including Jane Philpott
Vitalité Health Network, Tuesday, October 10, 2024 - Vitalité Health Network recently welcomed Dr. Jane Philpott, physician, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University in Kingston, former federal cabinet minister and renowned author, who is particularly interested in access to primary health care.
Dr. Philpott visited the Dieppe Family Medicine Unit, where future family physicians are trained in the new collaborative care model. During her visit, she said she was impressed by the vision and progress already achieved by Vitalité Health Network in this area.
She said that the local family health team model reflects her recommendations for primary health care based on a team approach, with shared access to electronic patient records and a diversified range of health care services.
I share her view that we need to build a primary health care system where each person is cared for by a team within their community, to ensure coordinated, comprehensive and continuous care delivery.
This innovative model is based on patients being cared for by a multidisciplinary team, rather than by a single doctor. This approach makes it possible to delegate certain tasks and set up a rapid treatment system for minor emergencies. The sharing of electronic medical records facilitates collaboration between different health care professionals and ensures continuous follow-up of patients throughout their care journey. The Vitalité Health Network model is distinguished by the addition of an advanced triage system, supported by artificial intelligence.
We are convinced that we have designed a winning formula for our patients and are determined to deepen our relationship with care providers and all our partners to build on this success. It is imperative that Vitalité Health Network be supported in its initiatives, to move forward quickly, support our family doctors and alleviate the pressure on the hospital system.
We can be proud of the progress made in our efforts to improve access to primary health care, one of Vitalité Health Network's strategic priorities. I encourage you to take a look at the detailed results, which will be published in the next quarterly report on October 24, 2024.
