Tracadie-Sheila receives new CT Scan unit
Tracadie-Sheila, July 23, 2014 – The Tracadie-Sheila Hospital celebrated today the official unveiling of the facility's new Computerized Tomography (CT scan) unit.
“By properly replacing aging equipment and upgrading aging technology in hospitals, our government ensures efficiency and effectiveness of patients’ care across New Brunswick,” said Health Minister Hugh Flemming. “This new CT scanner will process high quality scans resulting in better health-care services for patients in the Acadian Peninsula.”
The new CT Scan unit project in Tracadie-Sheila represents a total investment of $806,000. Computerized Tomography uses x-ray technology to take multiple cross-sectional views of the inside of the body, precisely determining the area and size of lesions on an organ or body tissue such as the brain, heart, lungs, arteries, liver and gallbladder.
Stéphane Legacy, Chief of Operations for the Acadie-Bathurst Zone, expressed his satisfaction that the Tracadie-Sheila Hospital is now equipped with a new state-of-the-art CT Scan unit. “With this new equipment designed to meet today's standards, our medical staff and health care professionals will be able to continue offering excellent services to patients in the region. The monies invested by the community are substantial and represent a strong commitment from the population in the Tracadie-Sheila area towards their healthcare facility”, he said.
The Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie Inc. contributed $278,000 towards the project while the Coopérative Régionale de la Baie Ltée invested the sum of $250,000.
Philippe Ferguson, President of the Board of Directors for the The Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie Inc. underscored the commitment of all stakeholders in the project’s realization. “Today’s announcement allows us to see once again the importance of partnerships in the development of better healthcare services in our region. Thanks to the important relationships with the government, Vitalité Health Network, the Coopérative Régionale de la Baie Ltée and the Foundation, we have equipped our healthcare professionals with state-of-the-art diagnostic technology”.
