Taking action to ensure access to healthy food in Restigouche
Vitalité Health Network’s Public Health is supporting two new community initiatives in Restigouche to raise public awareness about food safety and promote access to healthy food.
In Campbellton, the Campbellton Library offers food security bookpacks, an educational tool designed primarily for children ages 2 to 8 and their families. Each pack contains a selection of books in French or English that explore various aspects of food, including its origins, gardening, shopping habits and some food-related challenges that children may experience.
In Baie-des-Hérons, the Incredible Edibles initiative involves replacing decorative flowers in selected public spaces with vegetables, fruits, and fresh herbs that are grown and made available free of charge to the entire community. The project seeks to make fresh locally grown produce available to residents while promoting sharing, community engagement, and greater awareness of food self-sufficiency.
