Construction of a five-storey addition at Chaleur Regional Hospital
Bathurst (GNB) – The provincial government is investing up to $10 million in 2015-16 towards the construction of a five-storey addition at the Chaleur Regional Hospital. This investment is part of on-going work at the hospital.
“Investing in our infrastructure creates jobs and improves the quality of life of New Brunswickers,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “Our government’s continued investment in the Chaleur Regional Hospital will improve our health-care system and generate economic activity through this strategic infrastructure project.”
The addition will join the hospital’s west façade. This construction phase will consist of foundation, structure work and exterior walls. Construction of the addition is scheduled to start in October and is projected to create 213 jobs.
Last year the provincial government invested $2.5 million for architectural planning and design work for a major addition to the Chaleur Regional Hospital, which will address space shortages, primarily in patient care units.
The entire $217 million construction and renovation project is expected to create a total of 2,126 direct and indirect jobs over the construction period and will be completed by December 2023.
“This investment will spur economic growth in the Chaleur region and create jobs,” said Environment and Local Government Minster Brian Kenny. “The work and expansion at the Chaleur Regional Hospital goes to our priorities of creating jobs and helping make New Brunswick the best place to raise a family.”
Kenny spoke on behalf of Health Minister Victor Boudreau.
“When completed, these new installations will allow for more efficient health care delivery and an improvement to the well-being for patients while in our care,” said Paul Couturier, president of the board of directors for Vitalité Health Network. “Further, our staff will find itself in a work environment that is improved and adapted to today’s standards.”
