Temporary measure: Transfer of acute cases from Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital to Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre
Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, January 29, 2024 - As of Monday, January 29, 2024, acute care beds at the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital will gradually be converted to palliative and long-term care beds.
The transition will take place in a gradual manner, beginning with the transfer of new admissions of patients requiring acute care from the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital Emergency Department and from the community to the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC) in Moncton.
At the same time, some patients hospitalized at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC and awaiting placement in a long-term care facility in the Kent region will be transferred to the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital.
“This temporary adjustment is made necessary by a shortage of medical resources,” explained Dr. Natalie Banville, Senior Vice-President of Client Programs and Medical Affairs. “It is intended to reduce the workload for care teams and improve community access to physicians, while maintaining the quality of care and patient safety. However, we would like to reassure the public that the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital and its Emergency Department will remain open and continue to provide services to the region's population, despite this temporary measure that may be in effect for a few months”, she added.
The Network's teams are committed to pursuing their sustained recruitment efforts to resume regular operations at the hospital. In addition, collaboration between the two facilities will continue until additional hospitalists are recruited.
