About
Established in 1974, the Volunteers’ Association of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre is a non-profit organization with the following objectives:
- allow volunteers to contribute to the comfort and well-being of patients in collaboration with healthcare professionals;
- promote a sense of community ownership through volunteer action.
The Association carries out its mission by planning fundraising campaigns and other activities to provide the financial and human resources required to supplement the care provided to clients. Each volunteer who is registered with Volunteer Services and gives the minimum number of volunteer hours required is a member.
Background
November 20, 1974, was the first meeting of a dozen people interested in actively volunteering with patients of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. A few weeks later, the Volunteers’ Association was founded with 45 members. Even then, the Association's goal was to plan various projects to ensure patient comfort and promote volunteerism. Since this modest beginning, the number of volunteers has grown steadily. The volunteers reflect their community: the Association includes youth, adults, men, women, those who are still working, and retirees. They all have the same motivation: to serve patients with compassion and friendship.
Board of Directors
The Volunteers’ Association is managed by a Board of Directors that is elected annually. The Chair heads up the Board and represents its members with pride and professionalism.

Gifts and activities
Every year, the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre's Volunteers’ Association provides funds to purchase equipment and carry out projects directly related to patient comfort. All these funds are raised during the year through fundraising activities like a fudge sale, a bazaar, draws, as well as the profits from Appel Dumont Response.
The Association expects to provide over $50,000 annually to ensure patient comfort and well-being.
