The University Mission: A year of growth and innovation for Vitalité Health Network

Vitalité Health Network, Wednesday, August 28, 2024 – Vitalité Health Network is proud to present its annual report on its university mission for 2023–2024 highlighting remarkable advances in research, evaluation and training.

Expansion of research and clinical trials

In 2023–2024, the Network’s research and health evaluation sector carried out 289 research activities, including 78 research and evaluation projects, 65 literature reviews and 66 knowledge transfer activities. This dynamism was supported by the publication of 51 scientific articles reinforcing the Network's position as a leader in Canadian health research. Thanks to the Clinical Trial Support Unit, 36 clinicians conducted 33 therapeutic clinical trials funded by 12 pharmaceutical companies and 7 academic institutions.

These trials offer Network patients access to innovative alternative treatments; some 8 new clinical trials in cardiology, respirology and internal medicine were also launched this year supporting the Network's ability to meet the needs of New Brunswickers.

Consolidating partnerships and strengthening training

The Network maintained 68 affiliation agreements with Canadian postsecondary institutions, welcoming 1,647 trainees from 45 different programs. These trainees included 664 nursing students, 266 medical students, and 264 students in other clinical disciplines such as laboratory technology, ambulance services and social work.

Finally, 66 non-clinical internships were offered covering areas such as medical secretarial work, administrative support and health service management. The Network also welcomed 387 high school students, giving them their first taste of the exciting world of health care and playing a key role in training future generations of professionals.

Toward a promising future

“Vitalité Health Network is determined to grow and innovate in the areas of research, evaluation and training,” stated Brigitte Sonier Ferguson, Senior Vice-President, Performance, University Mission and Strategy.
