Initial contact is made to discuss the child’s needs and clarify the service agreement.
The collaboration of those in the child’s circle is important for the child’s progress. The child’s circle may include parents, teachers, health professionals, community workers and other people important to the child.
What does the occupational therapist do?
Occupational therapists are health professionals who work with the child and their circle to maximize participation and autonomy in the framework of activities of daily living (e.g., getting dressed, eating, using the toilet, playing, etc.). Occupational therapists are experts in analyzing activity, the child’s skills, and the environment. Interventions focus on developing skills and reducing obstacles at school, in the home and/or in the community.
Services offered
- Direct and indirect consultation, assessment and intervention services in collaboration with the child’s circle
- Prescription of specialized equipment (e.g., wheelchair, lift, adaptive utensils, etc.)
- Consultation to improve physical accessibility at school, at home and in the community
- Education on the safe use of mobility equipment
- Assessments, recommendations and education to ensure safe transfers
- Assessments and recommendations on safe transportation (e.g., car seat, positioning belt, etc.)
- Assessments and interventions for access to technological aids and/or environmental control for children with a physical function limitation
- Assessments and interventions regarding fine motor skills (e.g., handling utensils, dressing challenges, etc.) or sensory processing when the child’s activities of daily living are impacted
Who can receive our services?
Children whose autonomy is impacted by physical needs and/or a developmental delay.
What is the wait time?
Service priority varies based on the risk assessment (for the safety of the child and their circle).
