Misty LaBillois is a candidate for certification as a First Nations Health Manager (First Nations Health Managers Association, 2025) and holds a diploma in practical nursing from the Eastern Shores School Board (2010). She has completed numerous specialized courses in areas such as maternal and child health, immunization, childbirth support (doula), and mental health intervention.
Professionally, Ms. LaBillois has held the position of Health Transformation Lead at the North Shore Mi'kmaq Tribal Council since 2023, where she contributes to the advancement of health services for Atlantic First Nations. She previously served as Acting Director of Health for the Ugpi'ganjig First Nation (2019-2025), including during the pandemic, and worked as a licensed practical nurse in various settings, including community care and maternal health in Ugpi'ganjig and Listuguj. Between 2021 and 2023, she also served as an elected councillor on the Ugpi'ganjig Band Council, demonstrating her commitment to community governance.
A passionate advocate for her Mi'kmaq culture, Ms. LaBillois is actively involved in her community. She is a member of several committees, including the Restigouche Breastfeeding Promotion Committee and the Ugpi'ganjig Healing Team, and has played a key role in health promotion and prevention initiatives. As a young single mother, she embodies leadership rooted in integrity, equity, and cultural revitalization.
