Funding Opportunities
Guidelines for the 2025-2026 Competition
Deadline for project submissions: September 5, 2025
Description of the Funding Program
The funding program of the Medical and Dental Staff (MDS) University Mission Fund supports the university mission of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (DGLDUHC). The program aims to provide funding for specific projects that advance research, training, teaching, and learning, while addressing clinical or educational needs. By supporting these activities, the program seeks to promote innovation or improvements that will benefit the hospital community and society at large.
Available Funds
The selected project will receive up to $10,000 in funding over a one-year period, from July 1, 2025, to July 1, 2026. All funds awarded must be spent in full by July 1, 2026, with no possibility of carryover beyond that date.
Application Eligibility
The principal investigator must be a member in good standing of the MDS and hold physician status at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC or the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital (SMKH).
Assesment Criteria
Funds will be awarded through a competitive process. The MDS University Mission Fund Management Committee will create an Assessment Committee to evaluate applications submitted to the Fund.
Among the criteria used to evaluate applications, we emphasize the importance of the following two:
- The contribution of each co-principal investigator is tangible and clearly demonstrated in the application.
- Priority will be given to projects that address needs or challenges in clinical practice or medical education.
Other factors considered in the evaluation of applications:
- Scientific merit of the project (justification provided through an adequate literature review, originality of the research, relevance of the proposal, clarity of its objectives, coherence of the proposed methodology);
- Feasibility (the work plan schedule and budget are realistic, the team has the expertise required to carry out the project, the infrastructure required to carry out the project is available, and the budget is adequately justified);
- Potential outcome (impact on the health network or patients, innovative potential);
- Participation of medical doctoral students in research activities;
- If applicable, the significance and scope of the preliminary outcome (phase I) and its role in the submission of a second application (phase II).
The selection committee will be made up of representatives from the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick, the Université de Moncton, and Vitalité Health Network. Projects recommended by the Assessment Committee from among the MDS University Mission Fund applications will have to be validated, and the associated budgetary expenditures approved by the MDS University Mission Fund Management Committee.
Eligable Expenses
Eligible expenses include the salaries of students, coordinators and research assistants, as well as the resources needed to develop the project (consumables, travel expenses for meetings, registration fees for training workshops, etc.).
