Public Health Advisory – Wildfire Smoke and Extreme Heat
July 3, 2026 – Public Health would like to inform you that smoke from active wildfires outside New Brunswick may affect air quality in the Greater Edmundston and Grand Falls regions. A heat warning is also in effect, which may increase the health impacts of wildfire smoke, particularly for those who are most vulnerable.
We invite you to share the following recommendations with the people you support, your staff, volunteers, and clients:
-
Be alert for symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, headaches, or shortness of breath.
-
Reduce your level of physical activity as needed, particularly outdoors.
-
Limit the time you spend outdoors when air quality is poor.
-
Keep windows and doors closed. Turn off air exchangers or set them to recirculation mode, if possible.
-
Stay cool and drink plenty of fluids.
-
Pay particular attention to people who are more vulnerable, including young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with heart or lung conditions.
Check the air quality in your area:
