Message from our President and CEO – Celebrating Black History Month together
February 5, 2026 - As Black History Month gets underway, I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the achievements and enduring contributions of Black communities in Canada, particularly in the field of health.
We are proud to have a diverse team at the Network, with nearly 10% of our colleagues identifying as members of the Black community. Their commitment, experience, and expertise strengthen our purpose: to foster the health of our patients and communities, today and tomorrow.
This year marks an important milestone, as Black History Month celebrates its 30th anniversary. We are all invited to honour the theme "Black Brilliance Across Generations—From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries." Announced by the federal government, this theme highlights the enduring legacy of Black Canadians, whose leadership, creativity, innovation, and resilience continue to shape the present and inspire generations to come.
This month, let's learn more about the history of Black communities in Canada, celebrate their contributions, and renew our commitment to fighting inequality. This involves not only recognizing past and present successes, but also reflecting on the challenges that remain in building a more inclusive society.
I invite you to actively participate in the activities and events organized this month to celebrate Black History Month. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn, share, and support our colleagues while continuing to build an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and respected.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to making our Network a place where kindness and respect for differences are integral to our actions. Let's strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion and continue to make our Network a place where everyone can thrive.
Happy Black History Month!
Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO
