New Endoscopy Suite for the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre
Premier Susan Holt and Health Minister Dr. John Dornan visited the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC on Thursday to announce a $30-million investment for the construction of a new endoscopy suite.
This project will transform the former surgical wing into a modern 1,280-square-metre (13,800-square-foot) facility that meets current standards.
The new suites will be used for digestive endoscopies, bronchoscopies, ENT (ear, nose and throat) procedures, urology procedures, and other specialized examinations. These procedures are essential for screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of many conditions, including several types of cancer.
The redevelopment will increase the number of procedure rooms from seven to twelve, enabling approximately 2,500 more digestive endoscopies each year and significantly reducing wait times.
“This modernization will strengthen our ability to meet the growing demand for specialized care,” said Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network. “It will improve the patient experience and access to diagnostic tests, while providing our teams with a modern, high-performance environment.”
The new endoscopy unit will be designed to meet the needs of the New Brunswick Medical Training Centre in Moncton and the Université de Sherbrooke, ensuring that medical students can train in a state-of-the-art facility. Completion is expected by summer 2029.
