The Paquetville Health Centre provides primary health care:
- Health status assessment;
- Disease and health management;
- Disease prevention.
Primary health care is provided mainly on an individual basis.
The nurse makes occasional community visits to offer prevention and health promotion services.
In 1988, after a level III care facility was opened and on the recommendation of the then Minister of Health, the village of Paquetville decided to build a medical clinic to provide the public with the services of a physician in the region. In 1989, Dr. Daniel Boucher joined the team, greatly improving the services available to the population. The village then gave the building to the Department of Supply and Services for the token sum of $1 so that the Government could take over responsibility for upkeep.
In the early 2000s, the Department of Health encouraged the establishment of health centres, so the Health Authority formed a committee to prioritize the services that could be added to the Paquetville Health Centre to improve service to the public. The fundamental priorities were phlebotomy service and sample analysis. This is still under consideration in 2014, mainly because of the lack of space in the current building.
