Healthy Learners at School Program (HLSP)
HLSP is another New Brunswick Public Health program. It targets students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. According to the program guide (OCMOH, 2015), HLSP's objectives are based on the four pillars of the comprehensive school health approach.
Thus, school communities must:
- Create environments that are healthy, safe and conducive to learning;
- Acquire the knowledge, skills and experience that will enable them to take action to improve students' health and well-being;
- Establish partnerships and use services to promote health and wellness at school;
- Implement health and wellness promotion practices and policies.
At Vitalité Health Network, this program is operationalized by members of the health promotion teams, thanks to collaboration with the Department of Education, school districts, educational agents, school staff, and stakeholders in the various environments that children and youth frequent. This enables us to develop consistent, district-wide resources and activities that can have the greatest possible impact on the largest possible number of students. Related initiatives include revising the curriculum, developing content for the Personal Development and Career Planning course, and updating Ado-Parlons santé, a website focusing on adolescent health. Public Health also sits on school district health committees and supports the development and implementation of their work plans.
