Speech-Language Pathology
The Speech-Language Pathology Department provides inpatient and outpatient services to people with communication differences/difficulties (e.g., speech, language, voice), feeding difficulties, and swallowing difficulties.
Services offered
- Evaluating communication and swallowing skills
- Delivering therapy to patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties and providing coaching to communication partners
- Consulting with other professionals, collaborating as part of interprofessional teams, and referring patients to other professionals as needed
Who can receive speech-language pathology services?
- Preschoolers
- School-aged children with specific communication and swallowing needs (feeding/swallowing, atypical swallowing, resonance and voice, including gender-affirming therapy services in some facilities)
- Adults who have difficulty communicating or swallowing due to stroke, head trauma, degenerative disease, cancer, etc.
Speech‑language pathologists may work directly with patients, or with caregivers and others who interact with them, to promote optimal communication and swallowing.
