A spiritual support service is available to patients seeking this type of care.
Our spiritual care practitioners are members of the care team and employees of Vitalité Health Network. They are trained to provide anyone with spiritual support within a health care setting while showing respect for their choices, beliefs, practices or life philosophy.
Spiritual care practitioners support, observe, assess and work with patients, their families and staff members and pay special attention to the following:
- Search for meaning;
- Identity;
- Values;
- Symbols;
- Rites;
- Needs;
- Desires;
- Profound aspirations;
- Relationship with self, others and that greater than self.
As needed to assure a patient receives the desired support, a spiritual care practitioner may turn to:
- Staff members:
- Volunteers;
- The chaplain;
- Community or religious leaders.
Spiritual care is rooted in being present to the other’s life experience. For patients who wish, volunteers are available to serve communion, pay friendly visits or provide support through their presence and listening.
In suffering, in illness, after a diagnosis or prognosis, how can we respond to the needs of patients, families, and doctors? Humbly, this is the question that the Network seeks to address through the integration of an interdisciplinary team.
The two days if the 2024 Spiritual Care Symposium conference recordings are available for free.
The conference recordings are available in French only. You may use the YouTube built-in closed caption and automatic translation settings.
