Edmundston Local Family Health Team Expands
The Edmundston Local Family Health Team will benefit from the addition of 10 new recruits, allowing it to expand its patient roster. Four nurse practitioners, one physician, three licensed practical nurses, and two administrative assistants are joining the team.
With this expansion, the team expects to take on 3,500 additional patients over the coming year, significantly strengthening access to care in the region. These new arrivals will also help offset the departure of a physician, ensuring continued access to a primary care provider for 760 patients.
Premier Susan Holt and Health Minister Dr. John Dornan visited Edmundston on Wednesday to highlight this progress.

These new professionals join an existing team made up of 14 physicians, one nurse practitioner, seven licensed practical nurses, two registered nurses, and one social worker.
The group was among the first to adopt the collaborative care model developed by Vitalité Health Network. Over the past year, the team has been able to offer its 13,500 patients access to an appointment within 48 hours for minor urgent needs.
“Our vision for primary health care is rooted in a community of professionals caring for their community,” said Vitalité Health Network President and CEO, Dr. France Desrosiers. “The members of the Edmundston team embody this vision perfectly by working together to improve access to care.”
