Community Health Dialogue with the Communities of Shippagan and Île de Lamèque

Representatives from the municipalities of Shippagan and Île de Lamèque, along with members of the community advisory committee of the Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre — representing communities from Inkerman to Miscou — recently took part in a day of reflection and collaborative work with Vitalité Health Network.
The main objective of this meeting was to encourage open dialogue around local health care realities and concerns, while allowing participants to gain a better understanding of the Network’s vision.
The presence of Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO, helped highlight the organization’s key strategic priorities, particularly improving access to primary health care and the patient journey, as well as the concrete impacts of these issues in the region.
Facilitated by continuous improvement advisors from the Network, the day led to the identification of immediate priorities for the community.
Among these:
- Improved communication about existing services and the Network’s future vision;
- Holding regular meetings between key stakeholders to improve coordination of emergency measures during severe weather events;
- Follow-up on the priority needs identified in the 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment;
- Increased support for the transformation of primary health care, particularly through enhanced involvement of community representatives.
“By joining forces with our communities, we can effectively respond to health care needs,” said Dr. France Desrosiers. “These moments of dialogue are invaluable as we work together to build sustainable solutions and meaningful initiatives for our patients.”
The day concluded with a shared commitment to continue this collaborative approach. Participants agreed to meet at least twice a year to maintain momentum and track progress on the actions taken together.
