Modernization Underway at Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre – Update

Modernization work to install an air treatment system is ongoing at the Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre. This project, estimated at nearly $5 million, involve adding a ventilation and air conditioning system on the second floor of the facility, originally built in 1963.
The new system will help maintain optimal temperature and humidity conditions while improving air quality for patients, staff, and visitors.
Completion of the project is currently scheduled for September 2025.
Once finished, the project will also allow the full restoration of the Long-Term and Palliative Care Unit to its full 12-bed capacity.
“This is good news for the people of Lamèque Island, as well as for our teams, who will be able to resume their work under optimal conditions,” said Jenny Toussaint, Vice-President of Clinical Logistics.
“This upgrade will enhance patient comfort and offer better working conditions for our staff. It also reflects our commitment to the sustainability and continuous improvement of our services.”
Maintaining hospitalization capacity at the Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre is a key priority for the Network, as it is committed to meeting the needs of the Lamèque Island population while providing local, accessible care—today and tomorrow.
