New partnership to improve access to cataract surgeries in the Moncton region

Thanks to a new partnership between Vitalité Health Network, Horizon Health Network, and The Moncton Cataract Institute, an eye care clinic in Greater Moncton will significantly improve access to cataract surgeries for patients in Southeastern New Brunswick.
Located on Englehart Street in Dieppe, The Moncton Cataract Institute will now perform cataract surgeries for patients from hospitals in Zone 1, served by Vitalité Health Network and Horizon Health Network.
The ophthalmology team consisting of Drs. Gilles Cormier, Julien Saad, Isabelle Savoie, and Houfar Sekhavat will perform over 3,000 surgical procedures annually and will have the capacity to handle over 5,000 surgeries per year.
Performing cataract surgeries in a modern, specialized facility will reduce waitlists and significantly improve access times.
"We are expanding a proven model that has delivered remarkable results in the Bathurst region," explains Dr. Natalie Banville, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Vitalité Health Network. "We are very pleased to partner with the Cataract Institute team to provide patients faster and improved access to surgical care that is essential to their quality of life.”
Vitalité Health Network will closely oversee the agreement to ensure compliance with procedures and maintain the highest standards of quality and safety. The costs associated with these procedures will remain fully covered by provincial health insurance.
“We have brought together the best technologies and a highly qualified team of professionals to ensure optimal outcomes for our patients, while contributing to a substantial reduction in cataract surgery wait times in the near future,” emphasizes Dr. Julien Saad, surgeon and co-founder of The Moncton Cataract Institute.
The costs of these procedures will remain fully covered by the provincial health insurance plan.
