Université de Moncton and Vitalité Health Network launch the New Brunswick Health Research Institute

Université de Moncton and Vitalité Health Network are proud to announce the creation of the New Brunswick Health Research Institute (NBHRI), a new non-profit organization dedicated to transforming health research in New Brunswick.
The NBHRI is the result of a transformation of the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute (ACRI), which is celebrating its 27th anniversary this year. The Institute is now expanding its scope to include other crucial health issues, with the ongoing goal of responding to the real needs of communities.
Bringing together researchers from across the province’s francophone university and hospital network, the Institute will focus on several key areas:
• Prevention and treatment of cancer
• Aging and seniors’ health
• Mental health and neurosciences
• Health promotion and prevention of chronic diseases
• Improving the performance of the health care system
Bringing together researchers from across the province's French-language university and hospital network, the IRS will focus on several key areas:
- Cancer prevention and treatment
- Aging and seniors' health
- Mental health and neurosciences
- Health promotion and chronic disease prevention
- Improving the performance of the healthcare system.
“If the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute has been able to shine for so many years, it is thanks to the dedication of visionary individuals,” said Gaëtan Thomas, Chair of the NBHRI Board of Directors.
“Today, we are building on these strong foundations to create an institute that places science at the service of the common good. We aim to make it a strategic hub capable of attracting public and private investment, creating high-skilled jobs, and developing national and international collaborations.”
The Institute will pool resources and expertise to stimulate research and the development of health innovations. It will also play a central role in training the next generation of scientists.
“By joining forces with Vitalité Health Network, we are fostering a true synergy in health research in New Brunswick—advancing both scientific knowledge and its practical applications for the benefit of the community,” said Dr. Denis Prud’homme, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton.
Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network, welcomes this new chapter: “The Health Research Institute reflects the strength of collaboration and our commitment to generating practical, sustainable solutions to the challenges facing our health system, while strengthening clinical and scientific excellence within our communities.”
The Institute will be led by Dr. Marc Surette, President, CEO, and Chief Scientist, supported by a governance structure bringing together the key partners of the sector.
