Vitalité Health Network Presents Its Quarterly Community Report
Vitalité Health Network, Monday, October 27, 2025 – Vitalité Health Network is publishing today its quarterly community report, covering the period from July to September 2025. This report highlights progress made in several key areas, including access to primary health care, staff recruitment, health professional training, and hospital performance.
Expanded Access to Primary Health Care
Over the past quarter, Vitalité’s Local Family Health Teams have surpassed the milestone of 30,000 new patients enrolled. A new team was established in Campbellton, and work is underway to add teams in the Bathurst, Dalhousie, and Richibucto regions.
Medical Recruitment Trends Remain Strong
The Network continues to attract and retain talent. Since January 2025, 52 physicians have been hired compared to 15 departures, strengthening the positive trend observed in 2024 (45 hires and 15 departures).
Shorter Hospital Stays for Faster Return Home
Several of the Network’s hospitals have achieved a significant reduction in average patient length of stay, thanks to ongoing efforts to improve service coordination and patient flow.
- At the Transition Unit of the Edmundston Regional Hospital, the average stay was reduced by 6.5 days, freeing up beds more quickly and improving hospital throughput.
- At the General Surgery Unit of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, patients are now discharged an average of one day earlier.
- At the Medicine Unit of the Campbellton Regional Hospital, the average stay has been reduced by three days.
Other Highlights
- A new alcohol withdrawal support program is now available in the Acadie-Bathurst and Northwest zones. Eligible patients can receive medical and psychological follow-up care at home, avoiding hospitalization.
- The Network launched Canada’s first digital pathology simulator—a groundbreaking project that trains future pathologists in emerging technologies. The project was recognized at the annual meeting of the International Liaison of Pathology Presidents, which brought together pathology college leaders from Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada.
- A new agreement with the Fédération Marocaine de l’Enseignement Professionnel Privé will help align the training of Moroccan health professionals with Canadian standards.
- The Network celebrated the success of the first graduate of the French-language pharmacy residency program offered in New Brunswick.
