A healthy pregnancy!
You will certainly have questions about your pregnancy before you meet your obstetrician. Make the most of these first few weeks to take care of your body and learn more about what happens during pregnancy. You can consult the Nine Months of Changes guide to learn more.
General health advice
- Start taking prenatal supplements, such as folic acid
- Maintain a healthy diet for both mother and baby
- Take care of your teeth, because pregnancy can affect oral health
- Stop drinking alcohol, using drugs, vaping and smoking
- Engage in physical activity, such as walking, swimming or yoga
- If you are taking any medications, consult your pharmacist to ensure that they will not affect the baby's health
When to seek medical attention
It is normal to worry during pregnancy and to want everything to go according to plan. However, it can be difficult to know when to actually be concerned. Here are some warning signs that should not be ignored. If any of the following occur, consult your doctor or health care provider.
- Bleeding
- Intense abdominal or pelvic pain
- Loss of clear liquid
- Severe headaches, accompanied by nausea and vision problems
- Sudden swelling of the face, hands or legs
- Fever
- Decrease or absence of baby's movements
- Regular and painful contractions before 37 weeks into pregnancy
- A fall or an accident
- Severe shortness of breath, palpitations or chest pain
- Persistent vomiting
- Signs of depression
