Tips for fathers or co-parents
Depression in fathers or co-parents
Depression is a medical condition that can occur at any time in a person's life. Suffering from it does not make you a bad parent; many parents experience such symptoms after the arrival of a child. Never hesitate to seek help from your health care provider or by calling Tele-Care (811). The NB 211 service may also be a starting point to help you find resources and support in your community.
Forming a bond with your baby
There are many ways to bond and spend quality time with your baby:
- Take care of your baby by changing their diaper, feeding them and giving them a bath;
- Interact with them;
- Cuddle them and show them your affection;
- Talk to them, sing songs and read stories;
- Take them with you on short outings, such as to the grocery store or the park.
Take care of yourself
The arrival of a child changes everything for the whole family. It is important to remember to take care of yourself so that you can take better care of those you love! Get rest, eat well, stay connected with family and friends and give priority to quality time together.
To be a present and engaged parent, it is essential not to forget yourself!
